Students Encouraged to Discover University-Level Study Without Leaving East Sussex

Students Encouraged to Discover University-Level Study Without Leaving East Sussex

Prospective students considering university this September are invited to explore a local alternative at East Sussex College’s Newhaven Open Day on Saturday 14th March (11am–2pm).

With rising accommodation costs and increasing pressure on household budgets, more students are looking at ways to gain a degree without moving away from home. East Sussex College is showcasing three University of East Anglia-validated degree courses available right here in Newhaven that offer a flexible and affordable route into higher education.

Visitors can explore the BA Animation, BA Design, and the BACP-accredited Person-Centred Counselling degree courses, all validated by the University of East Anglia, as well as meet subject expert tutors, and see the modern workspaces at the Marine Workshop building.

Why come along?

  • Study close to home – Save time and money by learning locally, in a friendly and supportive environment.
  • Flexible courses – Part-time, evening, and blended learning options mean you can fit study around work, family, and other commitments.
  • Support that works – Small classes, approachable tutors, and dedicated study and wellbeing support help you feel confident every step of the way.
  • Career-ready skills – Gain practical knowledge and experience to help you progress into work or further study

“Many students assume they need to move away to gain a high-quality university experience, but that’s simply not the case,” said Meg Sullivan, Director of Higher Education at East Sussex College. “At Newhaven, students can achieve a University of East Anglia-validated degree while benefiting from smaller class sizes, expert teaching, and strong personal support.

Our Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to explore the campus, speak directly to tutors, ask questions about student finance, and see how studying locally can provide both flexibility and excellent career prospects.”

There will be a range of talks throughout the day, including Counselling Q&A sessions, BA Animation & BA Design talks, and general sessions covering student finance, course support, and progression options.

If you’ve been wondering whether studying locally could work for you, this is the perfect opportunity to see for yourself and ask any questions you might have.
