The Queen’s Green Canopy has created a tree planting initiative to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, which invites everyone from across the country to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.
East Sussex College’s first tree was planted in early March on its Eastbourne campus for the ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ campaign, and it proved to be a valuable and impactful opportunity for the Inclusive Learning students at the College.
Robert Disney, Inclusive Learning lecturer at East Sussex College, said, “Tree planting is an incredible way for students to connect with nature while helping the planet. It links to many areas of the curriculum and it’s a fun, hands-on project. Planting trees also improves the College grounds, and encourages all students to respect nature.
“Green spaces improve physical and mental health. Trees absorb CO2 – one of the main causes of climate change. The trees planted will become a legacy that future students will enjoy.”
The Inclusive Learning students at East Sussex College Eastbourne that are involved in this exciting initiative are Thomas Goldsmith, Kieron Platel, James Aldridge, Patrick Leahy, Harry Cox, Henry May and Jessica Ferrell.
As a collective, the students said, “[This project] gets us out into the fresh air and sunshine, and we would recommend others to do the same! We are going to email Buckingham Palace and hope the Queen acknowledges us. This would be the best day for us! We congratulate the Queen on her success!
“Trees last a long time and are good for the environment. It is nice to do something good for the College and helps to bring positivity back to the British people.”
