On Friday 22nd March a group of Bricklaying and Carpentry students accompanied by their lecturer Malcolm Machin and Susan Peters, Careers & Employability Sector Lead for Ore Valley Campus, travelled to the site of the new mental health hospital in Bexhill to experience how a large construction site is organised and run safely and efficiently.
Kier has been appointed by the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to construct a new £60m acute inpatient mental health hospital in Bexhill. Kier designs and builds construction and infrastructure across a range of sectors that are vital to life, work and travel across the UK.
Tony Brooks, Head of Curriculum for Construction at ESC Hastings, said, “Students thoroughly enjoyed the morning in which they were given a detailed briefing, safety induction and then guided tours of the site by a number of key personnel.
“It is hoped that this visit is the first of many, enabling students to experience the ongoing progress of the project through to completion. It is anticipated that this visit will result in future work placement opportunities for the construction students.”
