Sussex Downs College Celebrates Results and A Triple Scoop of A Grades

Students praised for their achievements & hard work following their A Level and Vocational course studies at Sussex Downs College

Sussex Downs College celebrates the continued success of its learners as A Level results and vocational grades are revealed across the country today. At Sussex Downs College over 40 courses achieved a 100% pass rate and 20 outstanding students are celebrating achieving three A/A* A Levels.

"The individual success stories of our students are truly something to be celebrated," says Mike Hopkins, Principal & Chief Executive at SDC. "The vast majority of our students are going on to study Higher Education, some with prestigious Russell Group universities. The College continues to improve and we are so pleased to celebrate a fantastic year for our students."

The College extends massive congratulations to all the learners in achieving fantastic results.

Eastbourne student Elysa Piccinini passed all four of her A Level exams, with an A in Italian, B in Law and Sociology and a C in Geography. Elysa is going to Royal Holloway, University of London to study Sociology and Criminology. BTEC student Grace Rolls-King achieved a triple D* (Distinction) in Health and Social Care. She is taking a gap year to work as a mentor at Willingdon School before taking up an offer from Roehampton University to study Primary Education.

Students scooping triple A*/A grades include Eastbourne students Nele Gewert, who achieved an A* in English Literature and A grades in Psychology and English Language. Daniel Hagan achieved an A* in Mathematics and A grades in Physics and Further Mathematics. Over at the Lewes campus, Jessica Green achieved three A grades in Philosophy, English Literature and Business. Roisin Fairbairn was awarded A* grades in Sociology and Communication & Culture, and an A in Psychology.

Other leavers for 2017 include BTEC Art & Design Extended Diploma student, Jade Earley, who was the youngest competitor and finalist on The Great British Sewing Bee in 2016. Jade finishes her time at SDC and is already working with a Brighton Fashion House, alongside writing a column for a sewing magazine, creating her own fashion designs and being an ambassador for young adults suffering with Dyslexia.

Mike Hopkins concludes: “Sussex Downs College learners are still surpassing expectations and are progressing to wonderful higher education and career opportunities.”
