Care Level 1 students from Sussex Downs College recently (14 June 2018) spent a morning with Little Bears Community Interest Company to recreate Eric Carle’s beloved story of The Hungry Caterpillar. Over 20 children, newborn to 5 years old munched and crunched their way through a celebration of healthy eating for children as part of activities planned and delivered by College students and Little Bears.
One of the students who participated, Shannon Ansell, 17, said the event was “such a great opportunity to work in partnership with Little Bears and I feel really proud of what we have achieved as Care students at the College. It was a privilege to get to know so many new little members of community.”
Course Co-ordinator, Andrew Morse described the day as, “an amazing opportunity for our Level 1 Care students who showed every ounce of their professionalism and capabilities as future care professionals.”
The Little Bears group runs weekly sessions in Old Town. They offer activities for under-fives with soft play, creative storytelling and messy play. Group coordinator, Naomi Young was more than happy to work with SDC students for this special session, “It was a pleasure to help the next generation achieve their hopes and dreams to work with children and obtain the qualifications needed as we think there’s no greater job! We have enjoyed linking up with the college and we really hope to continue the partnership of working with them in the future.”
