Time to Talk Day 2022

Time to Talk Day

Time to Talk Day (03/02/2022) is a national campaign led by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness in partnership with Co-op, and its intention is to encourage people to speak out about their mental health and end widespread stigma.

Time to Talk Day was first launched back in 2014 and is held each year on the first Thursday in February. The initiative reaches millions of people, enabling vital conversations about mental illness at work, in schools, and between friends and families.

According to Mind, it is thought that 1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem each year, and perhaps an even more staggering statistic, the Mental Health Foundation states that 50% of mental health problems manifest by the age of 14.

Opening up the conversation about mental health problems is important - by talking about it, people can support themselves and others.

East Sussex College has taken a proactive approach to mental health and understands that maintaining the best physical and mental wellbeing is important in your journey to success and will help you to get the most out of your studies.

The College is constantly developing resources, training staff and staging activities to give students the very best opportunity to stay well.

A wealth of resources are available to staff that are designed to enhance their wellbeing. Breathe is just one example of this, and is a virtual wellbeing space for all staff to share, reflect and learn new mindfulness skills so that they can utilise them at work and at home.

A key area of the College’s support system to students is the Wellbeing team. The College has specialist staff who are there to support students with their wellbeing including mental health, issues with home life or advice about staying healthy.
