Top Tips for getting the most out of your studies

Top Tips for getting the most out of your studies

Summer is quickly drawing to a close and your return to studies is fast approaching! When you turn up to college you want to get the maximum out of everything you do, that’s where we can help.

To be prepared for your first day on campus and beyond, here are some valuable top tips to keep in mind throughout your studies at East Sussex College.

  1. ORGANISE YOUR CLASS NOTES

Making notes is often the most valuable step in your study plan, so you want to make them as clear and legible as you possibly can.

There’s no doubt, you will need to look over them again… A LOT! Every student has a preferred system/layout that they use, but keeping your notes engaging and easy to read is the main thing. Whatever works best for you!

  1. HAVING A SCHEDULE IS KEY

Preparing and organising yourself and your studies remains critical all year round. That’s where having a schedule will help and make your college life so much easier.

You can either start your schedule from scratch or get a helping hand from a wide-range of scheduling apps and websites that will build a template for you to simply fill in! It’s definitely something worth looking into!

  1. FIND THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU

The environment that you study in is massively important and being comfortable in your surroundings will be a big help! Studies have shown that even by simply switching up your study environment can aid you in remembering information.

As our campuses are close to the sea, there’s never a shortage of new, cool places to explore and study, whether that’s on or off-campus!

  1. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS

If you get stuck on something, don’t panic! People often hesitate to ask questions out of fear of sounding silly or being judged, but there is no such thing as a stupid question! Asking questions will help remove doubt about whatever you’re asking, and will ultimately help you to retain information.

When it comes to learning, you’d much rather be in the know than unsure - our tutors will be happy to answer any doubts you may have.

  1. REST AND SLEEP ARE ESSENTIAL

The benefits of getting enough sleep are well documented and can’t be understated. Many doctors and scientists have proven time and time again that it is the most important part of the day if you want to be focused and do well with whatever you aim for.

To perform at your optimal level each day, you should aim to get at least seven hours of sleep per night. This will keep you refreshed and keep your mind in gear, making day-to-day college life much easier! A lack of sleep can make it difficult to retain information, and it can also damage your mood and stress levels.
