
The students, each in their first year of studies, visited the training centre in Bournemouth to undertake a wide range of industry-standard training activities as part of their assignment unit ‘Investigating Air Cabin’.
Jeanette Beckwith, Travel & Tourism lecturer at East Sussex College Eastbourne, said, “We took our Year 1 Level 3 Travel and Tourism Students for a Boeing B737 SEP Training Session at J.A.R.E Airline Training Centre in Bournemouth.
“Students completed a range of activities including an emergency evacuation slide procedure, rescuing a baby from a smoke-filled cabin and putting out a galley fire. They completed a PA and safety demo, an inflight lunch service and also had to put on a smoke hood and practice breathing normally.”
Jeanette added, “The training centre commented on the impeccable behaviour of the students and their outstanding participation in all the tasks taught.”
Following their completion of the training activities, students achieved a ‘certificate of evidence’ of their training - a key component of their course, and a glimpse into the skills required to succeed in the industry.
