Travel & Tourism and Beauty Students Experience the Magic of Iceland

Travel & Tourism and Beauty Students Experience the Magic of Iceland

Beauty Therapy students joined 38 Travel & Tourism students for an unforgettable trip to Iceland, exploring some of the country’s most famous natural landmarks and experiencing the magic of the Northern Lights.

After an early start on 10th March, students were greeted by dramatic landscapes, snow-covered scenery and crisp winter air as they began a packed itinerary of sightseeing and exploration.

Highlights included the famous Golden Circle, where they experienced geysers (hot springs that erupt water and steam), waterfalls and volcanic landscapes, as well as the stunning South Shore with its black sand beaches and powerful waterfalls.

Students also explored Reykjavik, visited the Blue Lagoon and took part in a Northern Lights boat trip – but the most unforgettable moment came when they witnessed the Northern Lights illuminating the night sky.

George House, Travel & Tourism Level 3 Y2 student said, “Iceland was an amazing trip run incredibly well by Jay, Rebekah, Anna and Emma. We had so much fun visiting all of Iceland's natural beauties. Exploring Reykjavík on electric scooters was so fun, and the Northern Lights boat trip was my favourite part - I got some amazing photos."

Brooke Eldridge, Travel & Tourism Y1 student added, “The best trip of my life! The teachers, especially Rebekah and Jay made the week unforgettable. Seeing the Northern Lights and sharing the experience with friends was incredible. I’d definitely recommend the trip and would love to go again."

Immy Reedman, Beauty student, said, “I really loved Iceland; it was such an amazing experience and I'm grateful I was able to go.”

Trips like this play an important role in helping students understand how destinations operate and what makes them attractive to visitors from around the world.

Rebekah Woolven, Travel & Tourism Lecturer, said, “We had the pleasure of exploring everything Iceland has to offer, from waterfalls and erupting geysers to tectonic plates. Throughout the week, the students were a real credit to the college, they were incredibly professional, friendly, and fully engaged in every activity.

“A particular highlight of the trip was seeing the Northern Lights. The display was absolutely breathtaking and something many of us will remember for a lifetime. The students were also able to capture some amazing photos!”

Emma Boddie, Beauty Therapy teacher and Deputy HoC, added, “Our five days in Iceland were packed with moments we’ll never forget. What made the trip truly great was our group of Beauty Therapy and Travel & Tourism students: curious, enthusiastic, supportive, and absolutely fantastic every step of the way. New friendships were made and their energy and spirit turned every sight into a shared adventure.”

For both lecturers, the trip wasn’t just about seeing amazing sights. It also gave students a chance to work together, step out of their comfort zones, and build skills that will help them in their future careers in travel, tourism, and beauty - from teamwork and professionalism to confidence with clients.

For many students, the experience will be one they will never forget, helping them build the knowledge, confidence and industry insight they need as they prepare for their future careers.
