East Sussex College will be on the airwaves once again as Eastbourne Youth Radio (EYR) makes a welcome return this November.
Media students from the Eastbourne campus will host select shows on Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th, and Friday 15th November, giving listeners an insight into life, events and news at the college.
Each year, the students take the opportunity to work through the night with a late-night show, giving them industry experience of working a graveyard shift. There’s usually a lot of coffee and pizza involved!
The show is run under the watchful eye of former broadcasters and now college tutors, who also guide visiting school students, who vary in age from Primary School infants to secondary school Year 11s, on the broadcasting equipment in the studios.
EYR is a really exciting and creative project that allows students to devise their own show content and deliver it to a live audience, giving them practical industry experience. They also have the chance to work to their strengths, choosing the role they play within the projects, whether it’s as a researcher, writer, presenter or sound editor.
Marcus Abel, Creative Media tutor, said: "The students really enjoy working on this project and really glad to see it being re-launched this year. It provides the students with a whole spectrum of skills, from researching topical conversation for the show to finding the right mix of songs to play. It’s a truly collaborative project that not only brings together the college but the entire Eastbourne community."
East Sussex College, along with local businesses and other schools, is a sponsor of EYR, which is presented by Eastbourne Education Business Partnership. Eastbourne Youth Radio is live on air from Wednesday 13th-Friday 15th November 2019, on 87.7FM and online at www.eyr.org.uk.
