Art, Design & Media Level 1

This entry level course is suitable for learners who want to start their creative educational journey. It will introduce them to the basic building blocks of art and design. Learners will explore techniques in painting, drawing, 3D sculpture and visual communication which will help them build a portfolio, gain work experience and life skills suitable for their progression in education. This course is for young learners with low confidence and with no previous qualifications.

What will I study?

During this Level 1 course, we'll give you an exciting introduction to the world of art and design.

You will learn and develop drawing skills, learn more about a range of paints such as oils and watercolours, and use our excellent printmaking facilities to learn skills in printing.

You will also be able to experiment using clay to create a range of ceramic projects, use our iMacs and PCs to explore digital art, and gain a good understanding of the history of art and design. English and Maths will also be a mandatory part of this course.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum two grade 2 at GCSE including English and/or maths.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessments will be 100% coursework based, which may include working on live projects.

What qualification will I achieve?

Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a Level 1 in Art and Design, awarded by UAL.

What can I do after completing this course?

Once you have finished this course, you will have developed a range of art and design skills that will set you up nicely to progress onto our Level Art and Design or Level 2 Creative Media Production.

There are a number of career opportunities available to you in the art and design industry, such as a graphic designer, web designer, photographer, illustrator, jewellery designer or fine artist.

Are there any extra costs?

You may be required to purchase your own materials such as sketchbooks, pens, paints, brushes, and memory sticks. You may also have the opportunity to attend a number of trips and visits, which may incur additional costs.
