Course Description This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the captivating worlds of Games Development and Film Production. With a focus on hands-on experience and practical skills, students will have the opportunity to choose their preferred strand of study: Games Development or Film Production. This course equips aspiring game developers and filmmakers with the knowledge, techniques, and creative mindset necessary to thrive in the dynamic and rapidly evolving industries of interactive media.

Games Development Strand In this strand, students will immerse themselves in the fascinating realm of game design and development. Through a series of interactive lectures, practical exercises, and engaging projects, students will acquire proficiency in using industry-standard game engines, including Unity and Unreal Engine 5. They will learn the fundamentals of game design, level creation, scripting, character development, and asset integration. By the end of the course, students will have the skills to design and create a range of video games, from simple prototypes to complex, immersive experiences.

Film Production Strand In this strand, students will delve into the captivating world of film production, learning the essential skills required to bring stories to life on the screen. Through a combination of theory and practical workshops, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process. They will explore various aspects of film production, including cinematography, directing, editing, sound design, and lighting. Students will also have the opportunity to utilise a range of professional equipment, such as cameras, audio gear, and lighting setups, to produce high-quality content for different platforms, including films, documentaries, and online media, such as YouTube.

Throughout the course, both strands will foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to work individually and in teams, tackling real-world challenges and applying their skills to create compelling interactive media projects. They will also explore industry trends, emerging technologies, and the business aspects of games development and film production, preparing them for future careers in these exciting fields.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and maths at grade 4.

How will I be assessed?

By the end of the course, students will have developed a comprehensive portfolio of work showcasing their proficiency in either Games Development or Film Production, enabling them to pursue further studies or entry-level positions in the industry.

What can I do after completing this course?

On successful completion of the course you could progress onto university to study Digital Content, Moving Image, or Software or Game Development subjects.

You may wish to start a career in the industry and could find roles in the Interactive Content sector, or Creative sector in general.
