The Design, Surveying, and Planning T-Level will develop your knowledge and understanding in a range of core elements that will underpin your learning in the Construction industry.

You will be given a context to the industry, learn the key concepts and theories in design, surveying and planning, and develop the skills you need to do the job.

What will I study?

During this two-year course, you will study a range of core elements that will include:

  • Health and Safety - You will explore legislation, working at height, and the implications of poor health and safety performance.
  • Design - You will discover the benefits of good design, not only whether the product is fit for purpose but also with budgetary constraints.
  • Construction industry - You will be given a context to the industry, learning about how the industry serves the economy, the integration of the supply chain, and how projects are procured.
  • Building Technology - You will learn about the different construction methods, including traditional and modern methods, building regulations, and building standards.
  • Digital Technology - You will learn about existing and new digital technology and how it can be used in construction such as computer-aided design, simulation, and animation.
  • Relationship Management - You will learn the importance of creating good working relationships with others which includes teamwork, methods and styles of communication, and customer service principles.

You will then have the opportunity to specialise in one of these areas depending on your interest:

  • Surveying and design for construction and the built environment
  • Building services design

There is also an industry placement built into your course to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your learning in response to an employer-set brief. Your English, maths, and digital skills will also be enhanced throughout the two years.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and/or maths at grade 4.

What qualification will I achieve?

After completing this course you will achieve an overall pass grade for the T-Level, shown as pass, merit or distinction.

What can I do after completing this course?

T-Levels have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses and are based on the same standards as apprenticeships which are approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

Employment: After completing your T-Level you will be fully-equipped to start your career in your chosen industry.

Apprenticeship: You may wish to continue learning in which case an apprenticeship would be a seamless transition. Depending on your chosen employer and the existing level of the apprenticeship you’d like to study, it may be possible for you to start a higher apprenticeship at Level 4, 5 or even 6 - the equivalent to a degree!

University: As you will be able to achieve the equivalent grade to 3 A-Levels, university is also a possibility. You may wish to specialise in a certain area such as architecture.
