What will I study?

During this course you will learn a range of advanced techniques that will help to prepare you for a career in the industry.

During this advanced course you will fine tune your skills in our purpose built workshop and become adept at all aspects of painting and decorating. You will be able to applying hangings to walls and ceilings and apply a range of decorative finishes to your work. You will also learn how to you advance equipment such as high volume low pressure spray equipment. There will also be an opportunity to improve your employability skills during work experience placements before you head off and start your career in the industry.

Topics you will cover during the course include: •Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms •Applying hangings to walls and ceilings •Producing specialist finishes for painted decorative work •Producing specialist architectural finishes for decorative work •Applying Water-borne paint systems using airless equipment •Applying water-borne paint systems using HVLP spray equipment

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and maths GCSE at grade 4.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, coursework will make up 10% and 30% will be made up of exams. Accuracy and completing tasks within a specified time frame will be important to the successful completion of the course. Constructive feedback from your tutor will also help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.

Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating

What can I do after completing this course?

There are plenty of career options open to you as well, including a Painter and decorator, a Spray painter, a Specialist paperhanger, a Industrial painter, or a Property Maintenance specialist

Are there any extra costs?

A range of specified PPE and a basic painting kit and equipment will be required for this course.

The PPE required will consist of safety boots, white bib and brace overalls and navy/black polo shirt. There are also a number of opportunities throughout the year for various construction related trips which may also incur a cost
