Our one-year Level 2 course will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to become a vehicle technician. You will develop your understanding and knowledge of vehicle maintenance and learn how to identify non-complex system faults. You will be taught by industry professionals who will combine workshop-based training on our range of cars with the necessary theory needed for modern mechanics. What will I study?

Our one-year Light Vehicle Maintenance course will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to become a vehicle technician. You will learn about the diverse aspects within the modern retail motor industry in our dedicated garages and workshops at our Automotive Training Centre. You will be trained on the diagnosis of non-complex system faults for light vehicles (cars and vans), gain a solid understanding of engine and chassis technology and understand the importance of health and safety in the workshop. You will also improve your English, maths, IT and employability skills during the year.

You will explore a range of topics including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Engineering skills
  • Engine technology
  • Chassis technology
  • Transmission Technology
  • Vehicle electrical and electronics
  • Vehicle servicing

You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum four grade 3-9/D-A* at GCSE including English and Maths. Or have successfully completed the Level 1 qualification and achieved GCSE English and Maths at grade 3/D.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessments will be made up of 50% practical, 25% coursework and 25% exams.

What qualification will I achieve?

City & Guilds Vehicle Maintenance Repair Level 2 Certificate.

What can I do after completing this course?

On completion of the course you can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles.

There are a number of career opportunities available to you after finishing this course, for instance you may find roles in the industry working as a semi-skilled mechanic, working in vehicle sales, or perhaps join an apprenticeship or management training scheme.

Are there any extra costs?

There will be a small additional cost for the course as you will be required to wear safety boots and black work trousers during the course.
