This City & Guilds accredited qualification is aimed at learners aged 16-19 who currently do not meet the entry requirements to start the Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles but would like to develop basic knowledge and skills in motor vehicle systems. Successful learners will develop and practise the skills required for entry level employment and/or career progression in the automotive industry.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.
Practical Assignments to assess essential skills: comprising of practical tasks, observation, verbal questioning and short answer questions to cover all learning outcomes.
These are carried out in the classroom and must be completed to current industry standards and practice.
City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance (7290-10)
Completion of this course and achievement of a minimum of GCSE 3s in both English and Maths can lead to progression to the Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principle. Alternatively this course can be used as a stepping stone to other compatible curriculum areas , such as Engineering or Paint & Body. Learners wishing to enter employment in the automotive industry after this course could be suitable for Fast Fit and Valeting roles.
