Our Level 2 Hairdressing course will teach you all the base skills you need to start your hairdressing career. You will learn how to cut, colour, perm, and style hair, while learning the anatomy of hair and how to mix products for hair colouring correctly.

What will I study?

During this one-year course you will learn a range of theory based and practical hairdressing skills such as cutting, colouring and styling skills that will help you to start a career in this exciting and expanding industry.

You will gain a valuable learn experience as you advise and consult with paying clients about their hair. You will present yourself in a professional manner as you build confidence and skills in washing, shampooing, cutting, colouring, styling and drying hair.

By the end of the course you will have built up a portfolio of your own styles, colours and cuts, which you will be able to take into further study or start your career in the industry.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English and/or maths at grade 3.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessment will consist of practical tasks, coursework and exams. Practical assessments are carried out on paying clients in our commercial salons. Essential knowledge is covered through project research, case studies, written/practical assessments and online exams.

What qualification will I achieve?

By the end of this course you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in women's hairdressing.

What can I do after completing this course?

After completing the course you can progress onto the Level 3 Hairdressing, barbering course or start an apprenticeship.

There will be a number of possible career opportunities available to you including working as a Stylist or Hairdresser in a salon, or working in television or theatre as a hairstylist, or even as a Wig maker or Trichologist.

Are there any extra costs?

You will be required to wear a uniform and purchase your own kit for the year which will cost approximately £260. You will also have the opportunity to visit professional shows, training days and conferences which may incur additional costs.
