This Level 3 course will prepare you for entry to a range of exciting careers in a range of services, including the Armed Forces, Police, and Emergency and Rescue Services.
You will study eight modules in their first year, covering interesting topics such as politics, leadership, discipline, psychology, citizenship, physical training, criminology, emergency incidents, and outdoor activities.
All of the units provide you with background knowledge and understanding of the industry and a range of essential life skills.
Throughout the course, there will be enjoyable trips and visits to public services, residential and expedition training, which will involve overnight stays, and industry talks from public service professionals.
Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and/or maths at grade 4.
You will be assessed continually throughout the course by a variety of methods. You will have written assignments and reports, practicals, simulations, role-plays, and presentations. There are no formal exams, but your coursework has formal deadlines that must be met.
Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a Level 3 Extended Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services, awarded by NCFE.
Once you have finished this course, you will have the equivalent of 3 A-Levels, meaning you can progress to university to study related disciplines, such as psychology or politics. If you'd like to start your career in the public services, then you'll have all the skills you need to find roles in the police, armed forces (including direct officer entry), the emergency and rescue services, the merchant navy, offender management services and private and public security organisations.
You will need to purchase a uniform, which is available via our online shop, and we recommend that you have suitable trainers and boots for outdoor activities.
Some trips and visits do carry a cost (i.e. those associated with visiting specialists, insurance, transport hire, food and accommodation during residentials, hire of facilities and entry charges). Overseas residentials are not included and are charged separately.
