On this course you will learn about Biology and disease, and the variety of living organisms. Biology is an interesting and fascinating subject - the key question that underpins Biology is 'How does life work?'. To begin with you will discover new components of cells and understand how molecules are transported across a cell membrane. Next you will explore the structure and function of full organs such as the heart and the lungs! During the first year you will also expand your knowledge of DNA, cell division and immunity. You will develop new skills in maths, practical experiments, how to analyse data and evaluate studies. This is certified by AQA. We strongly recommend that Biology be taken along with another Science subject at A-level e.g. Psychology, Chemistry, Physics or Maths.

The course covers the following topics: Biological molecules, Cells, Organisms exchange substances with their environment, Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms, Energy transfers in and between organisms, Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments, Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems and The control of gene expression.
A GCSE grade 5 in Maths, Combined Science 66 or Biology grade 6.,Our general entry requirements to study 3 A-Levels or any mixed level 3 programme are: 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and/or Maths at grade 5. Subject specific entry criteria may also apply. Our general entry requirements to study 4 A-Levels are: 6 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and Maths at grade 6. The modules above will be assessed by three written exams at the end of the second year. There will also be a practical endorsement of Biology which will be assessed (non-exam) as part of the course.
