The course will equip learners with both a depth and breadth of knowledge, understanding and skills relating to scientific, socio-cultural and practical aspects of physical education and the use of data to analyse physical activity. Students are assessed in one practical performance in which students must be actively competing in prior to the start of the course. Students will sit one exam at the end of their second year which will represent 70% of their overall grade with 30% being assessed via practical assessment. Learners must have a keen interest in PE and enjoy studying the areas that will be the focus of the courses. Furthermore, learners must have a regular commitment to participation in sport outside of college.
A GCSE grade 5 in English Language, grade 5 in Maths, and grade 66 in Science.,Our general entry requirements to study 3 A-Levels or any mixed level 3 programme are: 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 including English Language and/or Maths at grade 5. Students will be formally assessed by an end of course exam in their second year. This will represent 70% of their overall mark. Additionally, students will be assessed in one practical sport which represents 30% of their overall mark.
There will also be continual assessment throughout the year relating to both exam and essay-based work. It must be noted that this is a highly theoretical course, and has minimal practical application other than final practical grading assessment.
Students will also be expected to take more responsibility for their own learning if enrolled upon this course. This will mean independent study, research and observation and note-taking of various media clips. Lessons will revolve around discussion from independent work provided prior to each lesson starting.
You shall achieve an A Level in PE at the end of your two years.
Sport is a massive growth industry and this course can provide a pathway to a wide range of sport and non-sport based careers. Common progression routes into university include PE teaching, sports science/studies/development or coaching, leisure management and physiotherapy.
College sports equipment/clothing can be purchased through the PE department if you require it. One condition for acceptance on the course is that you will be expected to purchase a text book alongside a set of exam booklets - designed by physical education college staff - to help you with coursework, homework and assignments. This can be done through the college and details will be given to you during the first week of your course. Students will be expected to also attend an A level PE revision day provided by the OCR exam board which will greatly benefit their exam study.
Students hoping to gain an average practical grade of C or above will be expected to be regularly training and/or playing for a club. Some students may wish to pursue a Sports Academy Course in netball, rugby or men's football in addition to this A Level.
