What will I study?

This two-year course will develop your existing knowledge of sport and prepare you for a career in the industry. You will learn a range of practical, theoretical and scientific modules giving you an in-depth look at sport and exercise. You will study the respiratory and circulatory systems, getting to know the organs of the human body, you will see these vital organs in action during fitness testing in our fully-equipped gym, and you be able to create your own fitness programme, taking into account everything from lifestyle to diet. Gaining an understanding of sports injuries and injury management will also form part of your learning.

During the course you will study a range of units including:

  • Anatomy & Physiology in Sport
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Fitness Training and Programming
  • Business in Sport
  • Sports Development
  • Sports Coaching
  • Sports Injuries

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and/or maths at grade 4.

How will I be assessed?

You will study a total of 14 units in the two years which will be internally and externally assessed through a variety of assessment methods including exams, written reports and essays, presentations, and practical observations.

The course is equivalent to 3 A-Levels and you will be awarded an overall grade consisting of 3 grades, e.g., PPP, MMM or DDM.

What qualification will I achieve?

Successful completion of year 1 will give you a Foundation Diploma in Sport Successful completion of year 2 will give you an Extended Diploma in Sport

What can I do after completing this course?

Once you have completed the course you could progress onto University to study a range of sport-related disciplines, or you may choose to join one of our other sports industry related qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training or Level 3 Diploma in Preventing Injuries in Sport and Active Leisure.

With additional training you can start your career in the industry as a Sports coach, Personal trainer, Sport therapist, Youth worker, Sports scientist, Sports psychologist or Sports nutritionist

Are there any extra costs?

Uniform cost are £140 which will see you through the two-year programme

Other trips and visits may be arranged at extra cost and will be optional but will offer learners further opportunities to explore the many sports industries.
