But we all need to take a break, and with the Easter holidays upon us, it's time to sit back and indulge in our pick of some of the best movies on Netflix right now.
Our selection has been hand-picked with the criteria of rating 7 or higher on IMDB, being suitable for ages 12 and over, and based on true events - making them educational in some way (we are an educational establishment after all!).
Can you assemble a championship-winning Baseball team built on stats? Yes, you can if you’re Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s. Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill team up to buy new players on a lean budget using computer-generated analysis. A great watch, particularly if you’re a mathematician or a sports fan.
In May 1940, the fate of World War II hangs on Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler or fight on, knowing that it could mean the end of the British Empire. Gary Oldman stars in this historic moment for Britain.
When a rival newspaper lands a major scoop, detailing a decades-long cover-up about Vietnam involving the president, a publisher and editor-in-chief enter an unprecedented battle between the press and the government. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, this is a must-watch for an insight into the world of media and politics.
What was life like before social media? It’s all that we’ve known for the past two decades. The Social Network follows the meteoric rise of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg from Harvard sophomore to Internet superstar. Jesse Eisenberg stars and shows us how an idea in a dorm room was turned into a multi-trillion dollar business.
An incredible movie following the life of one of Britain’s greatest ever scientists. Eddie Redmayne plays the late physicist Stephen Hawking, as he grows in the world of physics but struggles with ALS, a form of Motor Neurone Disease, forcing increasing dependence on his devoted wife, Jane.
We normally keep these blogs to five things, but we wanted to throw in a bonus one for the Easter break:
It doesn’t quite fit the criteria as it only rates 6.4 on IMDB, however, this is a great crime drama, following a savant-like civil rights defence attorney, played by two-time Golden Globe winner Denzel Washington. Washington, in the title role, is faced with an enormous moral decision when his simple, ossified life is thrown into turmoil.
...and thanks to Netflix Party you can still watch these movies with your friends. Download the Chrome extension to start watching and chatting.
