East Sussex College’s student-run Coast Restaurant has been buzzing with activity this June, hosting two fantastic events that put the skills and talent of Hospitality and Catering students in the spotlight.

On one afternoon, Level 2 and 3 Catering and Hospitality students prepared and served a full afternoon tea under the guidance of Chef David Koller.

Between 2pm and 6pm, the team served 50 guests, with everything from delicate sandwiches to homemade cakes and scones. It was a brilliant opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned throughout the year, and they delivered a top-quality experience with confidence and professionalism.

Just a few days later, Coast Restaurant held a special Sussex Day Business Lunch on Monday 16th June. The restaurant welcomed some very important guests, including Her Excellency the High Commissioner of Uganda, and the Mayors of Eastbourne, Hastings, Polegate and Seaford.

Local business and county council leaders were also in attendance, making it a real highlight in the calendar.

The Foundation Group did an outstanding job preparing a hot buffet for the occasion, while Level 3 Front of House students delivered a smooth and professional service that impressed everyone in the room.

The Hospitality & Catering department at East Sussex College, said, “The events were a great stage to show off the talents and hard work shown by the students throughout the year. Sussex Day was a great prestigious event for both the college and Coast restaurant to hold. Congratulations to the Foundation Group for preparing an excellent hot buffet and to the Level three Front of House Students for a professional service. A great way to end the year!”

Both events were a brilliant celebration of what the students have achieved and a reminder of how far real-world experience can take them.
