The NHS team shared their experiences and gave students a hands-on look at the roles they play in maternity care.
Ann Hedges, Health and Social Care Lecturer at ESC, said, “We invited Pauline Perks from the Conquest Maternity team, along with two colleagues, to give a taster session in maternity.
“We've been very fortunate to have our T-Level students complete a 6-week placement within the Maternity team at the Conquest. Two of our students were able to shadow maternity support staff, observing both antenatal and postnatal care, and even had the chance to observe C-sections in the theatre.”
The session gave students a valuable insight into the various roles within maternity care. Pauline and her team discussed the responsibilities of Maternity Support Workers and Midwives, demonstrating the equipment used to support mothers during labour.
Students were able to try out the equipment and ask questions to the team. Georgie, a Maternity Support Worker, shared her journey into the maternity team and how the NHS has supported her throughout her training.
“The session was interesting and inspiring for our students,” said Ann.
