A-Level Photography student, Zazie, follows in the footsteps of former Photography students, Josh Elphick and Darcy Bradbury, who had success at the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year awards in previous years.
Following the exciting news that she is a finalist of the Landscape Photographer of the Year award, Zazie has been invited to the Winners Awards Ceremony in London on 25th October where they will announce the winner!
Speaking to the College about her journey so far, Zazie said, “When I was first announced as a finalist for the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year I was in shock! I didn’t expect it when I got the email. It was a class project, but I didn’t expect to make it.
“Jo [Zazie’s Photography tutor] encouraged me and my classmates to submit our work. She’s been really supportive, a very good teacher! My final piece was named ‘Seaford Head Cliffs’ and it was originally inspired by Bill Brant. I was going out to beachy areas that were more natural, and I was taking photos and thought that was the best one."
She added, “Ahead of the ceremony in London, I’m feeling a bit nervous! It’s quite different for me, I’ve never had an experience like this before. So, it’s quite weird!"
Zazie spoke to the College expressing her passion for photography, suggesting that students aspiring to undertake the subject should consider pursuing their studies at ESC.
“Studying Photography has been really good, I’ve really enjoyed it,” said Zazie. “We get to do loads of experimenting in different areas, it’s really different to GCSE level. It’s really fun, and definitely my favourite subject. I’d recommend studying the Photography course because you get to experiment and show yourself. There’s flexibility to do whatever you want.”
Jo Cripps, Art & Design tutor at East Sussex College, said, “Zazie is a very creative, hardworking and motivated student and talented photographer. Zazie has worked extremely hard during her time in A-Level Photography, she is a very consensus student and a supportive member of the class who is well liked and respected.”
