ESC Celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2022

World Teachers Day

East Sussex College is celebrating the 28th anniversary of World Teachers’ Day (5 October), with this year’s theme being, ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers’.

To recognise the support and commitment of teachers at East Sussex College, here are just some words of praise from thriving students across East Sussex College.

Jordan Hogan, East Sussex College Eastbourne Creative Media alumnus and Emmy award winner, said, “My time at the College has been an integral part of my learning experience. It's where my passion for journalism and visual storytelling really took off. My lecturers really taught me the basic industry skills I would need to get to where I am now. They prepared me so well for my university course that I had no doubts about what I wanted to do for my career.

“I would definitely recommend that other people study at East Sussex College, especially after secondary school. It helps lay down the foundation for a future career after going through secondary school.”

Level 3 Sport student at East Sussex College Hastings, Jack Bates, recently signed for Derby County Football Club and was full of praise for his tutor. Jack said, “My tutor at the College, Craig (Ottley) has been especially supportive with the process. When I first had trials at Derby, he helped me so much with college work, even though I was up here [in Derby]. When I was at college he was a massive help.”

East Sussex College Lewes Alumni, Joe Archer, who premiered his musical at a famous New York bar, said, “I can’t recommend the East Sussex Academy of Music highly enough! Their mentoring and support made my three years there the most enjoyable three years of my life! Their collaborations with ESC led to some incredible opportunities and some wonderful memories. I would highly encourage any prospective students to take a look around the College and the academy, you won’t be disappointed!"

As per Education International, David Edwards, General Secretary at Education International, “To truly celebrate World Teachers’ Day, we must go beyond thanking teachers. We must invest in quality public education systems. We call on governments everywhere to invest in teachers, guarantee labour rights and good working conditions, involve teachers in decision-making, and trust their pedagogical expertise. The transformation starts with teachers. We are the beating heart of education.”
