Speaking on the positive support from teachers and the draw of having an education in Hastings, May said, “Our teachers are brilliant. They are really easy to get along with. I feel like if I was doing any other course it would feel like I’m still at school, but because the Art Diploma, especially in Hastings, it’s a really good place for the art scene and for music and everything.

The local landscape at Cuckmere Haven features, intertwined with Blandy’s grandfather’s experiences in Japanese Prisoner of War camps. The exhibition also features ‘Oil, Sinew and Bone’, which features film footage dating back to the 1930s, mostly in Eastbourne and South Downs locations.

Performing Arts Students Invited to Aladdin Rehearsals

All of this was hugely useful to the students as they had just embarked on their own pantomime tour of local schools in Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, Plumpton, Laughton and Hamsey. Presenting their own version of Snow White and drawing inspiration from their experience at Aladdin, they performed to over 2000 school children and teachers, during a three-week tour. It was a successful return for the pantomime project, which the Performing Arts Dept in Lewes have been producing for over 20 years now.

Art & Design Diploma student, Imogen McIntosh-Roffey, 17, from Uckfield, won best Art in show. Chloe Laforest, 19, from Seaford, and Fran Macgregor Mitchell, 18, Eastbourne, both received the Charleston Choice Award.

College teams up with world-renowned architectural artist to launch ‘My Town’ art competition for second time

The competition gives students the chance to have their work published in the local press. All you need to do to enter is create a sketch, drawing or illustration in pen, pencil or ink. The medium should be paper, a sheet no bigger than A2 (420mm x 594mm, 16.53 x 23.39 inches), in a style similar to Stephen Wiltshire - preferably inspired from memory.

Currently, Kiki is in the midst of auditioning for top drama schools, a process she describes as “vigorous and exciting.” She’s making big strides, with her third-round audition for RADA coming up next week and a second-round audition for Guildhall the week after. “This course made me realise how deep my love for theatre is and I want to continue exploring that passion at drama school,” Kiki said, highlighting how the course has helped solidify her aspirations.

Sir Peter Blake presents awards to seven East Sussex College winners at this year’s Farley Arts Trust awards

Three students from the Eastbourne campus were also nominated and won awards. Jessica Miles created a range of prints based on her relationship with synaesthesia and won the top award in the works on paper category. There were highly commended awards for Izzy Patterson, who created swimwear based on micro-cultures in pond life, and Emily Coates, who created an advertising campaign to raise awareness for foodbanks.
