Vocational students studying Uniformed Public Services, Morgan Lewes-Clements and Leonie Rogers, received exceptional results and are looking ahead to careers in the public services industry. Morgan, who received D*D*D in Uniformed Public Services, said, “I’m very very happy with my grades. Honestly, support from our tutors was great. The support from my tutor was unreal, he couldn’t have done more, he helped us through everything! I’m looking to join the border force next September.”

College tutors embark on a trek across the Sahara for charity

We’ve been training and trying to prepare ourselves for the physical task of sand dunes and bracing ourselves for temperatures above 30 degrees during the day and perhaps almost freezing at night.

Digital delight for students as they open their A-Level results

In Eastbourne, Nathan Jukes who studied Maths, Computer Science and Physics celebrated achieving A*, A, C grades. It wasn't just A-Level students receiving their results on the day. Vocational students also received their BTEC results, with excellent results on the popular Public Services courses, Childcare and Engineering. In Eastbourne, Conor Nicholls and Joshua Ndubuisi achieved triple Distinction* in Public Services, reflecting the outstanding results in this course area.

An Innovative Approach to Students’ Learning

It has been shown that performance for students in further education is closely related to confidence and self-belief, as well as knowledge of the subject being studied. With this in mind, the department bid for funding from the OFS Uni Connect project, through the Sussex Learning Network, to employ the services of Zoe Carroll. Zoe, as well as being a Public Services tutor at ESC, is a life coach with a specialism in fear and confidence, and is using this role to help prepare students ahead of their assessments.

Care for the Carers

It wasn’t long before Pauline received donated materials - including buttons from someone in Essex - and support in making the headbands too. She has now produced 62 headbands, 32 mask bands and 31 scrubs wash bags. “I’m no longer a solo sewer - I have a small team!” says Pauline. “I now have colleagues from our Eastbourne and Lewes campuses helping me sew, so it’s turning into a real college group thing! I’ve also had some pretty material donated - the midwives loved the Disney Asristocats headbands I made! Someone also asked if I had a Just Giving page - and I directed them to the Hastings Sport and Public Services #ESC1900 page as I don't have one myself.”
