“[As an apprentice at Californian Classics] there’s a focus on stock taking, call taking, and general administration as that’s the course that I’m studying. I work on anything to do with administering the business. I thoroughly enjoy it, it’s good fun! The College and my assessor have been very supportive throughout my role as an apprentice so far. We have regular chats and the support is very pleasant!”

East Sussex Women in Business Awards

Collecting her award from the College, Jane was all smiles. She modestly described the moment she won, “I hoped we’d get a mention, but I didn’t think it would actually happen.” Jane continued to explain the passion she has for her line of work, particularly when she has helped women develop employability skills. “It makes it all worthwhile when you help someone with zero confidence believe in themselves. I know women who didn’t think they had much to offer employers, but with encouragement and training, have gone on to achieve academically, and become team leaders and managers.” Jane’s win is well deserved and an inspiration for many.

Grand day out for business students

Students explored the four-star hotel’s past and future on their visit, taking in the site of the 1984 bombing, which is now used as a meeting room rather than a guest bedroom. They learned about the company’s new green initiatives, which include milk cartons made into blankets, eco-friendly balcony furniture, and coasters made out of recycled tyres.

Earth Day 2022: Keeping it Clean

Emma Hartup, Head of Curriculum for Business Services, said, “Oliver’s talk was really inspirational for our Business Services students. A lot of the industries these students will be working in - travel, hairdressing, catering - will have eco-friendly practices in place. These students are the next generation workforce, so we are encouraging them to think about their own practice at College. How much do we throw away? Olivia Woodward-Benn achieved three Bs in Business, Economics and Sociology and was delighted to secure the grades she needs for her first choice university. “I am thankful to my lecturers, especially in Economics and Sociology, who have continued to support me during this unusual situation. I’m off to the University of West England (Bristol) to study Business Management and Economics. Due to Covid-19, rather than live in university halls, I will move in with family near the campus. I am excited to go to university, but realise it’s going to be different from my original expectations.”
