The day kicked off with an insightful Esports & Careers talk, followed by a fascinating museum tour and an engaging STEM workshop. Along the way, the team even bumped into none other than Top Gear’s Stig, Ben Collins!

Your generosity will facilitate young carers' access to essential assistance and offer them respite from their caregiving responsibilities, ensuring they do not bear the burden alone.

During the event that was streamed via the College and charity Twitch accounts, there were interviews with the team from CFTC and videos from carers. A carer is anyone who looks after someone who could not do without their help, for young people this is normally a family member such as a parent, grandparent or sibling.

Ian Golledge, Deputy Head of Curriculum for Digital Industries and Esports course leader, said, “This event not only highlighted the talent within East Sussex College Lewes but also underscored the importance of practical experiences in education. Congratulations to Team ESC Heroes and all the students who participated!”

Jayden subsequently made his way up through the pack and between them they secured first team place for the season and won the Split 3 championship. The race was streamed on Williams Esports Twitch account for the world to watch.

George Hedges, Head of Curriculum for Computing at East Sussex College Lewes, said, “Esports is booming right now, and we’re really excited to be one of the only colleges offering this qualification anywhere in the South East.

Adding to the excitement, Josh Babarinde OBE MP – an East Sussex College alumnus and local Member of Parliament – came along to show his support for his former college. He even joined in the action, taking part in the all-star gaming tournament and cheering on students throughout the night.

Esports students Adam Mounir and Adam Reeves helped host the tournament and both have ambitions to play Rocket League at a professional level and also coach within the gaming industry.

Students from East Sussex College’s Lewes campus showcased their Esports expertise at Games Fest Hastings, delivering an action-packed weekend at the White Rock Theatre.

A standout moment was the live gaming tournament, hosted by students from the college’s successful Esports course, with exciting prizes kindly provided by Scan Computers.

“Sponsorship will enable us to secure kit and go towards travel costs for our teams,” says Laurence Collier, Head of Curriculum, Sport & Public Uniformed Services, at East Sussex College. “Our teams travel and compete with colleges across the region. Having a company support to our teams is a great way to get the business name out to a wider audience. Eastbourne has a wonderful community feel and a link with local or local businesses and our sports teams also promotes the importance of education and physical activity."

The event is part of their course unit on running an event. The students have also worked with Foundation Learning students and will work within the community as part of their assessment.

After starting a personal training business, Dominic's career took an unexpected turn when he picked up a camera to create content for his business. That decision eventually led to the birth of DoMoreMedia, a creative agency that now works with major brands like DJI and Mountain Warehouse. “With an incredible amount of failure and mistakes along the way, I’m now shooting launch campaigns for companies,” Dominic shared, emphasising that persistence and learning from setbacks were crucial to his success.

The support and encouragement Joe received from his tutors at the College were pivotal in shaping his confidence and career direction. “My tutors provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge that enabled me to feel confident at university and get a foot on the ladder in a competitive industry,” he says.

Sports Massage Therapy, Personal Training, and Sport students travelled to the Hilton Hotel in Brighton on Saturday 9th March for the world’s only live and interactive anatomical dinner and dissection experience, hosted by Anatomy Lab Live.

Eastbourne Sports Park, based on campus at East Sussex College Eastbourne, has been announced as the new venue for sci-fi festival Wyntercon, returning in 2019

Skiltek Sport’s brand-new partnership with US-based Lancaster FC has opened up an opportunity for local students, including those studying at East Sussex College, to study and play sport in the USA. This agreement will help the College develop further opportunities post-college study for students.

The Sports Academy teams at the College are open to all ESC students, regardless of the course they are studying.

Zoe Canziani, Sports Massage Therapy student said:

East Sussex College sports student Ralph Plant is headed to Switzerland to play for Great Britain in the International Inline-Skater hockey Federation (IISFF) European Championships.

Zoe has previously worked with sports performers who suffered from performance anxiety before competitions. Studying fear and how extreme sports people dealt with it, she’s taken what she learnt and is now applying it inside the classroom as well as on the pitch.

To round off the year, Sports tutors flew to North Africa to complete a 40km trek across the Sahara Desert.

The College’s Eastbourne campus has outstanding sports facilities which include a full size 3G pitch, brand new studio classrooms and full use of the other facilities on offer at Eastbourne Sports Park. This includes state-of-the-art gym facilities containing Technogym equipment, in partnership with Wave Leisure.

Steve’s work is widely respected among elite sports stars, proven in his current role with England’s U15 football team. He also works alongside several Premier League and EFL footballers, and supports them with mental conditioning and high performance training.

Despite the challenges of setting up a multi-camera sports production, students have shown dedication and skill, overcoming technical and logistical barriers to bring their broadcast to life.

Since November 2024, the students have been immersed in real-world sports broadcasting, working closely with Lewes FC’s media team to develop match coverage that rivals professional standards.

Then from Monday 29th March, restrictions will lift a little bit more. Outdoor sports and the rule of 6 outdoors will return. Grabbing at least 10 minutes of exercise will help release endorphins into the bloodstream and make you feel better!

His impressive client list includes Nike, Apple, New York Times, HMV, Lucasfilm, Red Bull, Sports Illustrated, and many more. Tim’s creative journey is a testament to how a strong start at East Sussex College can lead to incredible opportunities.

We’ve been going on loads of trips, which helps build our interest in different sports, like white water rafting! We’ve had the opportunity to go to Barcelona, which is great if you want to work abroad and get an insight into the bigger clubs and have tours around there.

Neilson Active Holidays will be offering interactive workshops with Childcare students, Beauty salon students and Sports students. Representatives from Neilson will talk about the work opportunities available with the company, which is identified as the UK’s leading independent active holiday provider.

The English Schools FA hosted three trial sessions, two regional and then a later final trial at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in the closing stages of 2021, before the final 18-man squad was announced in January.

After completing his course, Laurence progressed to Anglia Ruskin University, where he explored subjects including Physiology, Biomechanics, Psychology, Nutrition, and Sports Medicine. He thrived in the university environment, developing both academically and personally, and graduated with a First-Class Honours degree.

Last year we did lessons down at Horntye, and we did a lot of football, netball, basketball - a lot of team sports. We even did a teachers and student game of football. That was really good fun!

“Sadly, I was never picked up by British Athletics but was asked to try out for British Triathlon instead and a couple of other sports. I couldn’t swim very well and had never been on a bike before… based on testing and my running, British Triathlon felt I had potential to compete at a future Games. I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity so I decided to make the switch and learnt to swim and cycle from scratch.”

Students had the opportunity to participate in fun activities including; free fitness sessions, wellbeing drop-ins, calming and meditation sessions, yoga, beat boxing, hair and beauty treatments, sports and more!

Following the success of being named ESFRS Cadet of the Year, Coby was invited to attend a Downing Street Platinum Jubilee afternoon tea, which was hosted by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries and Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston on Monday 6 June.

As part of Safety in Action Week, East Sussex Fire and Rescue (ESFRS), supported by East Sussex College’s Uniformed Public Services (UPS) Level 2 & 3 students, hosted a dynamic activity day at the Sports Park.

As I mentioned earlier, the one thing that made college such a memorable and important part of my journey was the teachers. They were all fantastic, but a special mention has to go to Vicki, who taught me on the Public Services, Sports Injury, and Massage courses. They taught me to have confidence in myself, and I can achieve anything I want if I apply myself enough.

The partnership’s expansion with the introduction of the women’s football academy means both male and female students from across Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne have the opportunity to excel in sport. This can be applied to professional football, progression to university or an apprenticeship, or even becoming a sports entrepreneur.

Can you assemble a championship-winning Baseball team built on stats? Yes, you can if you’re Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s. Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill team up to buy new players on a lean budget using computer-generated analysis. A great watch, particularly if you’re a mathematician or a sports fan.

Ella Sayer, 18, also from Eastbourne, obtained an A in Sociology and B grades in Philosophy and Psychology, and will follow her passion to study Criminal Psychology at the University of Sussex. Ella is the last Sayer to graduate from SDC with outstanding results, following in the path of her two brothers, Tom and Charlie. Charlie now runs a successful Sports Nutrition business and Tom has just received a First in his degree from Hertfordshire and will now become a pilot with the RAF.

Donna Harfield, Vice Principal of East Sussex College, explained the significance of this new equipment, stating, "The introduction of the Anatomage Table marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards further developing our provision and advancing digital innovation. This technology empowers our students to develop a deeper understanding of the human body and its complexities and will be critical in many sectors we teach including Health and Care, Sports Science, Biology and Beauty Therapy as examples."

Speaking to the College about winning FHT Student of the Year, Lottie said, “I had seen the excellence awards, as I do each year, in the FHT magazine - after some discussion and my outstanding academic success - I decided to send a short explanation about what I have achieved and the academic journey I have been on. To become a finalist felt incredibly overwhelming. The FHT is the UK and Ireland's largest professional association for complementary, sports, and holistic beauty therapists.
