Minister Donelan’s visit followed the announcement of the College’s Good Provider rating by Ofsted. Ofsted reported that the College had “developed and changed the curriculum offer appropriately to meet local needs successfully.”

Speaking on her study experience at the College and support from her tutors, Megan said, “I enjoyed my time studying at the College, everyone was very friendly and helpful towards all the students. In the classes everybody would help eachother if we were stuck or unsure on something which was being taught.

The day concluded with a visit to the Upside-Down House along Brighton's seafront, where students captured some fantastic photos!

Speaking on her T-Level course at East Sussex College, Chloe said, “I enjoyed the T-Level course [at East Sussex College]. The placements during the course gave me a variety of experiences. I went to a Cardiac Ward, Theatres, worked in Physiotherapy and with the Dieticians.

Level 2 NCFE and Level 3 City & Guilds students showcased their creativity by crafting Christmas cards for individuals with sight issues. These heartwarming gestures were delivered to Thornbury Care Home in Uckfield, spreading joy among the residents during the festive season.

The primary aim of the event was to celebrate students who are successfully on work placements and doing well with their respective companies, explain a bit more about the benefits of placements to employers yet to take someone on, and to give all students a chance to meet lots of people in the industry, build their confidence and make a few new contacts.

Anne-Marie emphasised the exceptional opportunities available to ESC Health students, adding, “Our students have been very fortunate to be offered placements at both Brighton Hospital (RSCH) and Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath).”

“She was professional and nurturing, and embraced the challenge head on. She has some fantastic ideas which really show how well she knows our children. She really is an asset to the school and we are very grateful for all of her hard work.”

The session gave students a valuable insight into the various roles within maternity care. Pauline and her team discussed the responsibilities of Maternity Support Workers and Midwives, demonstrating the equipment used to support mothers during labour.

“Following my results, I’ll be going into a trainee role with a Westridge Construction in Battle which I’m really excited about. Support from my tutor Matt Roberts has been really good, especially as it’s a new course, so support has been good!”

T-Levels: The next level qualification

T-Level students collecting their results included Aiden Hill. Aiden studied as a T-Level Design, Planning and Development student and received a Merit. Aiden said, “I studied T-Level Design, Planning and Development and I achieved a Merit! I’m happy with my grades! What I’m doing next isn’t related to my course, I’m currently training to get my private pilot licence and then plan to start my scholarship to fly commercial. Support from tutors was great, especially from my tutor Matt. I’d recommend that others study this course, it’s great and informative.”

T-Level students collecting their results included Bethany Denne, who was the only female student on the T-Level Design, Surveying & Planning course. She revealed: “I got a Merit, which is what I thought I’d get so I’m happy! Following my results, I’ll be going into a trainee role with a company in Battle which I’m really excited about. Support from [tutor] Matt has been really good, especially as it’s a new course, so support has been good!”

T-Level Creative Content students at East Sussex College are making history with Lewes Football Club, working on an ambitious project to deliver a live, multi-camera broadcast of a women's match – a first at this level of football.

T-Level student, Diana, told Sally-Ann about some of the things she has learnt so far. She said, "We've had a fair bit to learn in the first six weeks, we've covered things like child development, behaviour, and also reflective practice. Being able to evaluate your teaching practice is a really important way to learn and improve."

Engineering T-Level students from East Sussex College Eastbourne and Hastings travelled to Tunbridge Wells to meet with the highly skilled engineering team at Sensia.

Students studying T-Level Accounting and T-Level Business: Management & Administration attended a talk by Maxine Reid-Roberts, an insolvency practitioner at Quantuma.

Matt Roberts, T-Level Design, Surveying and Planning lecturer at East Sussex College Eastbourne, said, “Futurebuild is a construction industry event where manufacturers and suppliers share their latest technology. There is normally an overarching theme and this year it was about retrofit.

Students enrolled on T-Level courses have demonstrated remarkable performance, with an impressive number of impressive Distinction and Merit grades.

Students can collect their A-Level, T-Level, and Technical and Professional exam results in person starting at 8:30am until 11am. Results will be available at the main reception areas in Eastbourne, Hastings Station Plaza, and Lewes.

Rebecca Conroy, principal of East Sussex College Eastbourne, hosted the evening, and identified the project as a precursor to a new government initiative coming in: T-Levels. “T-Levels will enable vocational and technical education to have the same parity as A-Levels, and this pilot project was developed with the rollout of T-Levels in this sector in 2021. By looking at high-level industry placement models - and early on - enables students to make decisions a lot earlier on about what they want to specialise in.”

We also welcome speculative applications from those looking to teach A-Level English, A-Level Business and Economics, VFX Digital Content, Health and Social Care, Motor Vehicle, T-Level Health and T-Level Education.

With a focus on creating industry links, the course draws on a broad professional network to provide students with opportunities for ongoing industry placements, particularly beneficial for T-Level students.
